Abstract:Abstract: Objective To master the status of absence from class for illness and infectious diseases through the early warning system of infectious diseases in schools, and to provide scientific basis for infectious diseases prevention and control. Methods Surveillance data from “illness-induced absence from web-based reporting system in Honggutan New Area” from 2013 to 2014 were Statistical analyzed by descriptive epidemiology. Results The system has been used in 46 kindergartens, primary and middle schools in the region from 2013 to 2014. The coverage of the system among the kindergartens and schools was 95.83% (46/48). among 36569 students, 1697 were absent from school because of illness. The absenteeism rate of kindergarten students was significant higher than that of primary and middle school students(P<0.01), and the boys’ is higher than the girls’(P<0.01). The absent days were 0.9 per capita. Hand-foot-mouth disease, varicella and influenza were the main infectious diseases. The peak of absenteeism was in December, March and April. The system sent out 701 pieces of warning information, all of which was disposed effectively. Conclusion The illness-induced absence from web-based reporting system is one of early effective measures and plays an important role in controlling the infectious diseases in schools.
