Abstract:Objective To identify the species of indeterminate rodents by DNA barcoding method. Methods Six indeterminate rodents captured in Fujian Province in 2021 were used as the research objects. The mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COI) was used as the target gene for PCR amplification. After sequencing, homology comparison and phylogenetic tree analysis were performed to make molecular biology identification. Results All the COI sequences of the six indeterminate rodents were highly similar with the sequences in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Combined with genetic distance analysis and phylogenetic tree, it was confirmed that the six inderminate rodents were Mus caroli, Rattus brunneusculus and albinistic Rattus tanezumi. Conclusion For rare rodent samples or samples with atypical or defective appearance feature, DNA barcoding method is an efficient identification method and a useful supplement to the morphological identification.
